The Business Builder - Issue 102

Seeing RED, Elon's Latest, and a $12B Halloween

Get out your R.E.D. planning pen

One of the reasons I like working with business owners is that we tend to be very optimistic.

We dream big.

During planning season, we end up creating long lists of new things to do and try.

But if we don’t make room for those new things, frustration and doubt can creep in.

Peak performance in our business, sports, or other areas of life is rarely about doing more. It usually boils down to doing fewer things with excellence.

That’s why when I’m working with clients on the 90-day plans, we always think about RED - what can we:

  • Reduce

  • Eliminate

  • Delegate

In order to spend more time focusing on our Best Work.

Don’t stop dreaming big.

Just make sure to use your RED pen to make room for those dreams.

Microsoft stock hit an all-time high

Microsoft's stock has been booming due largely to their $10 billion investment in OpenAI - the folks behind ChatGPT. AI features should be showing up in your Microsoft application soon - have you seen them yet?

Meanwhile, it’s the government vs SkyNet

The administration launched some new bureaucracy (and a new website) aimed at promoting the “safe, secure, and trustworthy use of AI.”

Right now, the site looks like 2 parts political campaign and 1 part recruiting ad for government jobs. But don’t take my word for it - see for yourself here.

Ad-less versions of Facebook and Instagram

Facebook and Instagram users in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland will be able to stop seeing ads by paying a subscription fee. It’s a move to work around privacy regulations, which makes me wonder about this sentence in their announcement “While people are subscribed, their information will not be used for ads.”

This option probably won’t be coming to the U.S. anytime soon, but I’m curious - would you pay a subscription for an ad-less Facebook?

Got an extra $50k? Elon will sell you a handle

In order to keep the business world shaking its head, the owner of the service formerly known as Twitter has been offering to sell dormant handles for $50k.

The article also mentions some interesting challenges X faces in fighting bots.

And this…

Halloween spending is expected to have reached $12.2 Billion - with a “B.” That’s a lot of candy corn - not to mention the ridiculous amount spent on pet costumes. See for yourself.
