How Do You Plan?
The Business Builder Volume 3 Issue 24

Ever start the year with big plans, only to hit March and realize nothing's actually happening?
Yeah, me too.
Most planning doesn't work because it's either too rigid or too vague. You spend all this time mapping things out, and then real life shows up and ruins it.
Annual plans? They sound great. You sit down, get everything organized. Come up with good ideas. But then you've got to actually execute for twelve months straight. And unless you're incredibly disciplined (or lying to yourself), that's just not happening. You get three months in and half your plan is already irrelevant.
Then there's the "no plan" crowd. You've probably read those articles about CEOs who claim they don't plan at all. Plans never work out anyway, right? So why bother?
But that's not really a strategy. That's just hoping things work out.
Here's what works for me - 90-day plans.
I picked this up back in my software development days, before anyone called them sprints. We just focused on getting things done in chunks that made sense.
90 days hits a sweet spot. It's short enough that you have to focus - you can't do everything, so you pick what actually matters. But it's long enough to test things out, see what's working, and adjust before you give up on something too soon.
That second part is huge, especially if you're doing any marketing. Too often, we march from one task to the next without allowing time for testing or feedback.
90 days gives you room to breathe. You can test, get feedback, and make adjustments. Actually learn something instead of just reacting.
Maybe 90 days doesn't fit how you like to work. That's fine. The point is to find a timeframe that lets you stay flexible and make real progress without constantly second-guessing yourself or writing something off without gathering feedback.
And if you’d like any help creating or implementing your marketing plans in the coming year, just reach out.
